The night before, or morning of, is when you should place signage throughout your neighborhood. Signs should be clearly written in large blocks so that they’re easily visible to drivers. Include large arrows that help guide people to your door. Remember the most successful garage sales are the ones people know about.

Join Forces

To have a really successful garage sale, and to make for a fun experience, join forces with your neighbors or friends. The more stuff you add to your community sale, the better chances that potential buyers will actually stop, and shop. Just keep track of whose stuff is sold, and for how much, so that you can tally it up at the end of the sale.

Set Realistic Prices

Sure, it may be tempting to place premium price tags on your items, but you probably won’t get that price. If your prices are too high, you risk annoying potential buyers, and losing a sale. When pricing, it’s important to consider what you would pay if you were to buy the item used. Make sure price tags are on everything you plan on selling.

Group Like Items Together

Garage sale shoppers are often looking for specific items to purchase such as baby gear, clothes, and home decor. To make their shopping experience more enjoyable, take the time to group like items together in neat rows. Sort clothing by sizes, seasons, and gender. To increase your chances of making a sale, make sure everything is clean, and in good condition.

Place Big Ticket Items Near the Street

Keep in mind that big ticket items such as furniture, gym equipment, and appliances tend to lure people out of their cars. If people can’t see them, chances are they’ll just pass on by. If you’re selling these in-demand items, place them closer to the street and away from the garage door, so that they’re immediately visible. Keep electronics, jewelry, and other more expensive items tucked away.

Get the Kids Involved

Are your children trying to earn a few bucks to get the newest and greatest toy? Set up a lemonade/water and store bought cookie stand — and let them run it. Over the years we all collect random knick-knacks, and when we can’t find space for them in our homes, we toss them into the garage. But not in 2015! We encourage you to sift through everything in your garage. If you can throw it away, TOSS IT! But if it’s something that you can donate, stop by a donations center like Good Will or Savers. Help bless someone else, while simultaneously doing yourself a favor.

2. No storage? Buy storage!

We try to keep this tips as cost effective as possible. But let’s be honest, if you are going to spend the time cleaning everything in your garage, invest into some necessary storage solutions. Visit your local Container store, and find the perfect storage bins or shelving. If you find that your garage is filled with loose screws, scraps of crafting supplies, bike pumps, or basketballs, you need to find the exact kind of storage that will fill your needs. This will make a huge difference in the look of your garage.

3. Clean up 

Once all the unnecessary things are thrown away or donated, and the rest is properly stored away, we recommend actually cleaning your garage. Sounds more exhausting then it really is. If you have an outdoor hose that reaches your garage, we suggest hosing the floor off. (Please be careful with this step. We do not want you to hose your garage door censors, found at the bottom of each garage door tracks, and knock them off balance. So be conscious of that.)

How To Get Oil Stains Off Your Driveway

Difficult Driveway Stains

Having stains on your driveway can be an eyesore for yourself and for your guests. They can also be very difficult to clean and remove. You may have tried pressure washing and scrubbing, but the stain still remains. Unfortunately, when your car has an oil leak your driveway usually ends up having those unbearable black oil spots. Although they seem impossible to remove, with a little time and patience you can lift those nasty stains.

 

Things You’ll Need:

  1. Wipe up as much of the oil as possible with newspaper or old cloths.
  2. Pour kitty litter on the stain and cover it completely and cover it with newspaper.
  3. Allow the kitty litter to sit on the stain overnight.
  4. Sweep up the kitty litter and discard it.
  5. Cover the stain with laundry powder detergent.
  6. Pour water lightly onto the detergent. The detergent should be dampened, not washed away so don’t use too much water. The detergent and water should form a paste.
  7. Cover the detergent with newspaper and leave it to sit overnight.
  8. Remove most of the detergent paste leaving only a thing coating with a broom or an old cloth.
  9. Add more water to the paste and scrub the area with a wire brush.
  10. Rinse the area with clean water and allow it to air dry.

In light of garage door safety month, we decided to dedicate this post to ways you and your family can stay safe when using your garage door. As technology has progressed over the years, it has become more and more advanced in its safety features. For example, the automatic retractable door helps ensure that the garage door will not shut on your car or on any small children. With the new and very helpful innovative garage door tools, we are better able to assist and take care of you!

Here are a few ways we can help:

1) We need to check your garage door censors

The alignment of your garage door censors is a very important factor in making sure your garage door retracts in a proper amount of time (while causing little to no damage). These censors are located at the bottom of your garage door tracks closes to the floor. That means, they are more susceptible to being bumped, accidentally, causing misalignment within your garage door censors. Once we come out and check your garage censors, you shouldn’t experience any more difficulties with your garage door retracting.

2) Talk to your kids about safety

Even with a flawless retracting test, it is important to inform your children (Especially the ones that can reach the garage door opener) that closing and opening the garage door is not a game and it is not safe. Our hope is that by educating even our little ones about garage door safety, it will help us decrease the amount of garage door accidents and injuries.

3) Don’t wait till it’s too late
